Using Cash

Students who do not wish to use their accounts or do not have money on their accounts may pay for their lunches with cash.

Using Pin numbers

Students in all Coventry schools are assigned pin numbers which access their lunch accounts in the food service computer cash registers.  Parents are encouraged to put money on these accounts so students do not have to remember to bring cash daily.   One Free Lunch coupon (CGS & CHS) or 5 Free snack coupons (GHR & CNHS) are given for every $50.00 pre-payment.

How do I put money on my child's lunch account?
Parents currently have two options to pay for their child’s lunch account:

Check – Write a check to Coventry School Food Service (CSFS) and send or bring the check to the school kitchen.

Cash – Cash may be brought to the kitchen for deposit on the student’s account, or students may pay cash on a daily basis.

How do I know when my child's lunch account is running low?
Food service managers have been instructed to notify students when their lunch account is running low and parents can always call the school kitchen to request their child’s current account balance.  When the money in the account reaches $0.00 or lower the register beeps one long beep whenever the account is used.

    • At Coventry Grammar School & G.H. Robertson School the kitchen sends letters home with students when their account balance is negative.  Generally these letters are sent home with students on Wednesdays
    • At Capt. Nathan Hale School & Coventry High School, while students are reminded by the cashier if they are low in funds (and if they owe money by the cashier and the register beep), the students expected to try to keep their accounts up to date.  Letter are occasionally sent home with students, most often a week or so before report cards.
    • A printout of student purchases is available upon request.

Please note:   We reserve the right to restrict sales to students who do not have money to pay for their purchases.   Parents of students who owe $5.00 or more at report card time MUST pay their child’s balance in full before the report card will be released to them.

A-la-Carte Offerings

Each school has a variety of a-la-carte offerings in addition to lunches & breakfasts.

  • A la carte items are offered as a supplement to lunches purchased at school or brought from home.
  • All snacks and beverages sold to students meet the Snack & Beverage Standards set by the Connecticut Legislature.
  • To assist parents who do not want their children to purchase a la carte items, food service managers are able to code student accounts to limit sales to meals only.

Free or Reduced Price Meals

Parents are encouraged to apply for free or reduced price meals if they meet the eligibility guidelines.  Please note: This program is strictly confidential.   Your child uses his or her pin number just like everyone else and the computer knows how much (if anything) to deduct from your child’s account.
